Announcing the Zahi Hawass Foundation for Heritage and Antiquities
On the 9th of June Zahi Hawass Foundation for Heritage and Antiquities was officially announced whic in the St. Regis Hotel, hosted by Mr. Magdy Anis, the manager of the hotel. I announced the board of trustees of the foundation and announced that they will choose advisors from the Arab world, America and Europe.
I announced my foundation duties which are going to be teaching Egyptians hieroglyphics, archaeology, and history of Egypt to raise awareness on our heritage so they will preserve their monuments. I also announced the cooperation with AERA foundation under Mark Lehner as we will sign an agreement to train young Egyptian on the excavation techniques through the field school.
Also, the foundation will give three rewards for three archaeologists in the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), one in Islamic and Coptic monuments, one in restoration and one in the Egyptology. The foundation also sponsor a fellowship for an archaeologist from the SCA to study abroad. Further, the foundation is making a program for school-aged children to be able to visit historical Egyptian sights to introduce them to their country’s great past.
The foundation will also play the role of defending the Egyptian monuments from these who defame and pollute Egypt’s heritage and history. The foundation will play the role of lawyer for Egyptian Antiquities. I also announced that the petition for returning Rosetta Stone from the British museum and Zodiac from the Louvre signed by almost 300,000 people. The foundation will work to push it to a million signatures. I thanked Mr. President Abdelfattah El-Sisi for his support to the Egyptian antiquities and for always checking on the progress of our national campaign for returning stolen artifacts.
I also thanked the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Ahmed Eisa for his support and sent his congratulation on the appointment of Dr. Mohamed Ismail the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities which the foundation should cooperate with in all ways.
The foundation will work with the Ministry of Education to change the curriculum of history books. It will also collaborate with the Ministry of Higher Education to give lectures to students in all the universities. The foundation is approved by the Ministry of Social Solidarity also it will depend on funding from local Egyptians and foreigners to be able to continue this great program. The announcement was attended by many ambassadors of foreign countries and ministers and many intellectual Egyptians in addition to the press.
